ACNL 2009 – 2010 Scholarship Opportunities
It has been a difficult economic year for everyone - and this has presented challenges many of us did not anticipate. However, the pinch of our economic times will not keep ACNL from carrying out the important work of providing monies for nurse leaders advancing their degrees and building their leadership skills.
ACNL is proud to offer several Scholarship/Fellowship opportunities. See below for scholarship details and applications:
The Barbara Brantley Nursing Education Scholarship Fund
The Barbara Brantley Nursing Education Scholarship Fund, administered by the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL), was established by Catalyst Systems, LLC, to support students enrolled in a graduate program focused on nursing leadership, management, or administration. The intent of this scholarship is to foster leadership excellence in nursing.
Scholarship monies available: $2500
ACNL Claire V. Cunningham Masonic Fund for Supporting Leadership in Nursing
The ACNL Claire V. Cunningham Masonic Fund for Supporting Leadership in Nursing is designed to enhance leadership training and development for ACNL members. The Fund was established by the Masonic Foundation, a charitable trust whose mission is to help further the education of young people from kindergarten through college. Since its establishment in 1970, the Masonic Foundation has helped thousands of students improve their lives through education and intellectual growth. Claire V. Cunningham was a longtime member of the Masonic organization. Upon Mr. Cunningham’s death, his family presented a generous bequest to the Masonic Foundation to enhance the education of medical professionals. Through the ACNL Claire V. Cunningham Masonic Fund for Supporting Leadership in Nursing, ACNL will offer this scholarship opportunity to a service leader pursuing an advanced degree.
Scholarship monies available: $10,000
Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarships
The Camden Group established the Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarship fund to promote advanced education of tomorrow's leaders and nursing faculty. The Camden Group awards scholarships to individuals who are currently enrolled in a college or university for an advanced degree. All nurse managers, directors, educators, and nursing program faculty are invited to apply.
Victor E. Schimmel, MS, MBA was a vice president at The Camden Group with overall responsibility for The Camden Group's financial planning and advisory services. With over 20 years of consulting and line management responsibility in the healthcare industry, he had advised continuing care retirement communities, congregate care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, integrated delivery systems, and health plans on a wide range of financial issues.
Mr. Schimmel received his bachelor's degree from the City College of New York and master's degrees from the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T. (business) and Columbia University (mathematical statistics).
On December 8, 2000 Victor passed away leaving his wife Sydney and two daughters, Amelia and Joanna. In honor of our friend and colleague, the Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarships were established. These scholarships are designed to support the advanced educational pursuits of nursing educators and nursing leaders.
Scholarship monies available: $5,000 for a nurse pursuing a Masters degree and $5,000 for a nurse pursuing a doctorate degree.
ACNL Organizational Funds
ACNL raises funds every year to offer scholarships to Nurse Leaders pursuing advanced degrees.
Scholarship monies available: $5,000 for a nursing doctoral candidate, various other scholarships in the $500 to $2500 range. Last year ACNL introduced the Research Scholars program, and will again offer a scholarship in the area of research. Please note: Applicants for the Research Scholarship must complete
both the Scholarship/Fellowship packet and the Research Scholarship application.
